0.2.5 Devlog
Hi Timeworkers!
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Unlike in our game, the time it takes for us to work flows in one direction; no rewinds or redos! Fortunately, we’ve only needed one loop to bring you a deluge of exciting updates in Timeworks ver. 0.2.5!
Firstly, our furry blue friend has become something of a lab rat the past few months. We’ve been full steam ahead on our second zone, The Lab! New mechanics, new levels, and new ways to break time and space are waiting for you here. A few of them are also very... slimy.
You’ll be wading through gallons of this gelatinous green goo, and learn how to manipulate it to create new items. Gathering it in buckets, making it into plastic, jumping through nets of it; you’ll be a slime expert by the end of the lab. You also need to learn how to throw items drenched in the stuff, which is like trying to take off a wet t-shirt. You might need some help from another clone in this case.
You’ll also be crashing into a lot of these strangely colored barriers in the lab. Those are there to keep unauthorized agents and interns away from delicate lab equipment, color coded on what they keep out. They make the puzzles in the lab much more complex, and we’ve loved what they bring to the level design process.
The lab levels and their mechanics were our main focus during this part of development. The iterating, designing, and testing on all 15 Lab levels was a tall order for our designers but we’re really happy with the results. Creating challenging and engaging puzzles is what we love most about this game, and we can’t wait to get them in your hands/brains!
Speaking of brains, the Lab is the design of one brainy lil fella, Gary! Friend to Audrey and fan of elements not on the periodic table, he approaches you to help him with various experiments after hearing about your exceptional performance in the Factory. He’ll be your guide and mentor as you hop around on hexagons and douse yourself in hopefully non-toxic chemicals. Gary claims they’re safe, anyway- and how could you say no to a face like that?
At least his bosses put him up in what they called “a forward thinking and constructive atmosphere for productivity.” We’ve been making the lab shine like a test tube after a windex scrub, with completely different objects and elements from the Factory. It’s a distinctive new look that you’ll love to scurry around in.
We were excited to bring all this new content to you, but we also felt like it needed a kickass soundtrack. So we got in contact with local band Atomic Fizz to make some amazing tracks for both the Factory and the Lab! Now your puzzle-solving time will also be jam time as you enjoy the best jazz fusion sound in all of Philly. Follow them at @atomicfizztheband on Instagram and get excited for the amazing tracks they made for Timeworks!
Since nothing can top that update, (not even UI updates, more player settings, or beginning work on our final zone) we’ll cut it off here. The game has more than doubled in size since the Factory, and is evolving every single week. As we wrap up work on the Lab, we want to thank everyone who's been following the development of Timeworks thus far. We’re nearing the home stretch and cannot wait to show you every little detail of this passion project of ours!
See you next..
